Calling all foodies

In Arizona, expect to find a lot of local fresh ingredients, thanks to the many chefs choosing to champion the uniqueness that makes the desert unlike anywhere else. Really! Just ask celebrity chefs Bobby Flay and Cat Cora, who were forced to take second place to three Valley of the Sun chefs on the Food Network’s Iron Chef America. Or visit one of the 28 Arizona dining establishments that received the 2010 AAA Four and Five Diamond awards.

Almost every Arizona city has a regular farmers’ market (or two) that chefs and locals frequent. These community markets often offer arts and crafts in addition to the fresh produce. To taste what’s in season, visit arizonafarmersmarkets.com.

Arizona also holds a multitude of Culinary Festivals throughout the year. The West of Western Culinary Festival is the Southwest’s premier culinary arts festival and features chefs from top independent and chef-driven resort restaurants and delivers an avant-garde epicurean experience. Held at Phoenix Art Museum in March, this multi-sensory affair has the ambiance of a sophisticated garden party. Also in March, Tempe hosts a Beer Tasting Festival. The Scottsdale Culinary Festival – Eat, Drink and Be Pretty – breaks onto the scene every spring. Taste food from around the valley in an upbeat energetic and uniquely Scottsdale atmosphere. And finally, Arizona Restaurant Week is the much anticipated week in early fall where the Valley’s top dining options prepare a three-course menu for the cost of just $29 – make your reservations early as they book fast.

Take a bite out of one of the most delicious dining and nightlife destinations in the Southwest.
